The court

The immense agricultural estate of about 80 hectares is surrounded by outbuildings and service areas that were once used to stock the mansion’s food reserves, the stables, the barns and the kilns in a setting entwined with nature and artifice.

The court house

Originally built to serve as a hunting and leisure lodge, the "Court" went through multiple expansions to include a church in 1700, the stunning barns in 1800, and later the housings for the workers. Today, the complex extends over an approximately 80 hectare land surrounded by the woods of the nearby stream bed of the Enza River that supplies numerous crystal water springs.

The Palace

The Hunting Lodge called “Il Palazzo” (The Palace) stands in the middle of the Court with the Renaissance double-arcades facing an unconstrained view of the estate, and providing men a relaxing, refreshing stop after a long day hunting. The lodge is made of a noble first floor with a vaulted hallway, the halls with rib vaults, a second floor with wooden ceilings and a balcony facing North, a large and voluminous penthouse with roof trusses. The story tells of a vast barrel-vaulted basement too, leading to the other Farnese Lodge known by the name of Pantaro di Sotto.

The "Grande Barchessa"

The large, sleek outbuilding (barchessa) was built in 1800 at the same time as other utility buildings. It is a majestic building made of stones from the Enza river, with large low-vault horse stables and barn, and a triple-volume granary with wooden ceilings and wide louvre windows. A rib vault arcade connects the outbuilding to a large coup, and forms a unique, complex structure that was a forerunner of modernity.

We reach the old Court through the towpath of the Enza river between rows of oaks and poplars. In the distance, past the farming landscape, one can see the elegant Palazzo with the majestic “Barchessa” outbuilding in the middle.
